Ask When Opening Backup Documents
CheckOpenFmBackup.fso
Problem description
By default, FrameMaker creates backup files from modified documents. Under ‘File > Preferences > General | Automatic Backup on Save’, this can be deactivated; however, sometimes this setting resets.
One problem with the backup files is that their file extension or file type does not differ from normal documents. It can thus happen that a backup document may inadvertently be opened up and edited.
Function description
When opening a backup document, the script prompts whether this is intentional.
If ‘No’ is answered, the script opens the regular document instead of the backup document.
The menu command functions as a switch. The current status is indicated by a checkmark in front of the command.
Requirements
- FrameMaker 6.0 or higher
- FrameScript/ElmScript 4.1 or higher
Note
The script works with structured and unstructured documents.
