Enable Asian Commands (up to FM8)

Problem description

If FrameMaker (up to Version 8) is not started in an Asian system environment (System Locale), various of Asian functions will be disabled.

FrameScript Enable Asian Commands

Some of the disabled functions may be enabled by customizing the FrameMaker ‘menus.cfg’ and ‘cmds.cfg’ configuration files (<AsianFonts Yes>). This is alternatively available through this script.

The menu command functions as a switch. The current status is indicated by a checkmark in front of the command.

Starting with FrameMaker 9, in addition to the functions for the combined fonts and the Rubi properties, the function for importing combined fonts as well as the dialog for the setting of Asian typography is also available in the paragraph designer (without additional adaptations).

  • FrameMaker 6.0 to 8.0
  • FrameScript/ElmScript 4.1 or higher

The script works with structured and unstructured documents.

Although the format import dialog up to FrameMaker 8 does not display the ‘Combined Fonts’ option, they will be transferred to the document during the import of paragraph or character formats or during the copying or pasting of text, unless combined fonts with the same name have been defined in the document.
