Hide Font Menus

Problem description

When the ‘Format’ menu is opened, a menu list of all installed fonts will be displayed automatically as soon as the mouse pointer is placed onto the menu item ‘Font’.

This font menu will then often take up the entire screen. It is not possible to simply ‘skip’ the display of this font menu.
(The font menu can be closed by pressing the Escape key.)

The same applies to a variety of context menus that contain the ‘Font’ menu.

Note: On some computers this problem appears to occur only occasionally.

Function description

The script removes the ‘Font’ menu from the ‘Format’ menu and all context menus.

The direct application of a font (as opposed to the use of paragraph and character formats) should be the exception to the rule anyway. However, a font can still be applied directly through the ‘Paragraph Designer’ and ‘Character Designer’ dialogs and the font menu in the Formatting bar.

The menu command functions as a switch. The current status is indicated by a checkmark in front of the command.

  • FrameMaker 6.0 or higher
  • FrameScript/ElmScript 4.1 or higher

The script works with structured and unstructured documents.

Since the standard font menu in FrameMaker 9 is also used in the
toolbar, this menu here is no longer removed.
