New Document (1-Click)
QuickNewDoc.fso
Problem description
New documents may be created using ‘File > New > Document | Portrait, Landscape or Custom’. FrameMaker will create these new documents based on the fminit\custom template.
In documentation practice, new documents are generally created based on a project-specific template.
Function description
The script will create a new document without displaying the ‘Portrait, Landscape or Custom’ dialog.
(This abbreviation may be helpful if you only need to create a document for testing purposes.)
The script replaces the ‘NewDocument’ FrameMaker command and can thus also be accessed with the key combination ‘Ctrl+N’. In addition, the script will be executed when clicking on the ‘New’
button in the Quick Access bar. This will create a new document in Portrait format.
The key combination ‘Shift+Ctrl+N’ will create a new document in Landscape format.
The menu command functions as a switch. The current status is indicated by a checkmark in front of the command.
Some document options may be specified by holding the Shift key down prior to opening the Base Pack menu.
Requirements
- FrameMaker 6.0 or higher
- FrameScript/ElmScript 4.1 or higher
Notes
The script works with structured and unstructured documents.
In FrameMaker 9 the script does work by accessing it through the ‘File > New’ menu and the key combination ‘Ctrl+N’.
However, clicking on the ‘New’ button will (due to a FDK9 error) open the ‘Send’ command, which is irritating (= send current document by e-mail).
Until this problem is solved, the script is disabled in FrameMaker 9, if you want to create new documents via the Quick Scces bar.
