Sort Paragraph Sections

Problem description

The paragraphs of a glossary are to be sorted alphabetically. The descriptive paragraphs must thereby stay connected to the glossary terms.

FrameMaker offers no such a sort function.

Function description

The script sorts a document or a selected range alphabetically based on a selected paragraph format. All paragraphs, beginning with the sort format, will stay connected until the next occurrence of this format.

Requirements

  • FrameMaker 6.0 or higher
  • FrameScript/ElmScript 4.1 or higher
  • A unique paragraph format must be assigned to the glossary terms.

Notes

Sorting of structured documents is not supported.

If the ‘Incl. Variations’ option is enabled, both a sort format named ‘ItemSpecial’ and a sort format named ‘Item’ will be taken into account.
