Replace Colors

ReplaceColors.fso

Problem description

FrameMaker neither offers the option to change colors globally and automatically nor the option to determine whether individual colors are even used.

Colors may unwantedly be inserted in the color catalog of the FrameMaker document e.g. by the import of a Word document.

Function description

The script can be used to globally replace colors with other colors. You can specify which type of objects shall be changed on which page type.

All colors that are not being used can also be deleted if desired.

A click on the ‘Objects’ button will display the following window:

You can set which objects and on which pages these objects shall be changed here.:

The settings of the first block (1) are independent from the (subsequent) settings of the page type.

In the second block (2), you can specify the document pages on which the enabled objects of the right column (3) are to be changed. Generally, you should only disable the objects you do not want to explicitly change.

Note that you will receive unavoidable overrides when only formats are changed but not text, for example (or vice versa).

The script generates a report with information about the replaced colors and their occurrence.

Requirements

  • FrameMaker 6.0 or higher
  • FrameScript/ElmScript 4.1 or higher

Notes

The script works with structured and unstructured documents.

The following objects will not be considered by the script:

  • Paragraph end symbols that directly follow manually color-coded cross-references, variables, and text insets.
This does not apply to color assignments that are controlled through the (character format) definition of the cross-references or variables (e.g. ‘<Red><$PageNo>’), but local color formatting.
  • Colored paragraphs in table formats. If applicable, refresh your table format after the color change.
  • Colored PostScript code
  • Color information in format change lists of the EDD

8bit PNG graphics may be the cause for the undesired import of colors. 24bit-PNGs should not cause this problem.
In addition, graphics should not be inserted directly on a body page but in a graphic frame to avoid this problem.

The report is saved in the document folder (‘_[i]_ReplaceColors.fm’).
